The first solar eclipse in 2012 will be an annular solar eclipse on May 20–21. This is the first annular eclipse visible from the United States in 18 years. We had the joy of sharing this experience with Nate.

We showed Nate how to safely view and eclipse without burning up his eyes. Two sheets of paper, one with a small hole in it will cast a shadow showing the moon passing between us and the sun. |
|
Nate was really excited about this. If you look carefully and the sheet of paper in his right hand, you can see where he wrote " I Love Theis" |

Here's a close up of what the eclipse looked like. |

After awhile we started to look for ways we could make the eclipse even bigger. Here I am holding up a CD, using the center section as the hole and the pool as the second sheet of paper so you get a blown up view of what the eclipse was doing. The shadows during this event made the overall effect seem really odd and everything was a bit darker than usual, sort of like twilight in the middle of the day. |
