Swim Lessons

Nate's in his final round of swim lessons for the next 2 weeks. Started Monday and goes through next Thurs. More of the same in Otter class. Instructors are really surprised that he's in this class with 4-6 year olds. He's really loving swimming and for his age is way ahead of everyone else.

Rob Horne has warned us of the dangers of him joining the swim team, 6am meets in Elk Grove and competitions all over. Sarah, their little girl was awesome this summer, competitively swimming. She could probably out swim me in a race, certainly for endurance/distance wise.

Iphone problems

The joy's of parenthood. Started when Nate went to unplug his itouch as it was charging, he knocked my iphone to the ground and cracked the glass. Still usable, but difficult and not very safe. Apple could fix it for $200, or I could get a replacement new version for $400. Found a guy on Criagslist that replaces the glass for $75, and also a store here in Roseville that would do it for $100. Maria decided to save some $ and take it to the guy in Natomas. He didn't have any glass in stock, so we had to wait another day. When he was replacing the glass, he broke the home buttong and it wouldn't work. Had to turn the thing off before I could switch applications. He offered to fix it for free, but it would be a few days before he could get the part.

I fionally got it back on Monday, but the button is a little crooked and doesn't feel quite right. I can live with it. However, now I seme to be having other problems. The darn thing won't sync with itunes. and I've tried all sorts of things trying to get it to work. Spent the last 3 days doing various things with it, rebooting, reformatting, reinstalling. Even tried jailbreaking and unlocking it. Went through problems ranging from no cell service, to not recognized by the PC. Sometimes I really hate technology.

Looks like I finally have everything restored on it, but still can't get it to connect to itunes. I guess I just get the music/photos/videos I already got loaded on it. Hopefully it'll last awhile longer, at least another year until the new version comes out.

So I took it to the pool tonight, to watch Nate and his swim lessons. Darn thing as soon asI got Nate into the water wouldn't do anything but the traditional endless reboot loop. It felt like the thing was getting hot and the car said it was 108 outside. So after the swim lesson, I got back in the car, docked the iphone and blasted the A/C right on the phone, sure enough it seemed to work fine. Came home, synced it no problem. I think something's going on where it won't wiork in the heat. I have it sitting on an ice pack now and I'm able to update it to 3.0.1 software.

Now I just need to figure out what to do with a phone that sensitive to heat in Sac in summer.

camping

Camping for the Green's, involves wine, olive oil and sea salts.

So we finally made it out camping last weekend. Some really great friends went up on Wed and Thurs, and they held a spot for us for Fri and Sat. The campsite is a first come, first serve and it fills up fast on the weekends. We were at Union Valley Reservoir, Wench Creek campground, site 18. The great thing about them holding our spot, is they were even kind enough to setup our tent for us.
Nate called this rock his house, he'd climb to the top and you had to have a ticket to get in. His imagination is really starting to kick in.

This is Nate's bridge/tunnel.
We woke up Fri morning and headed out. We drove up hwy 50 to Ice House rd, turned left and kept driving till we got to the site. Took about 90 minutes to get there and we arrived fairly early, around 11:30. We quickly got the rest of our stuff unpacked and had lunch. Then Nate, Lilo and I took off to explore the surroundings. Lilo loved being able to spend the day chasing balls, and slept hard at night. Nate was intrigued by being outdoors, but overall i would say a little bored that he didn't have anyone to play with. He didn't go out and meet any of the other kids, just wanted to hang out with us.

Nate being introduced to roasted marshmallows. No smores this trip, save that for next time.

Sat was even more difficult for him. We had a really hard time sleeping, it was really cold. Since we've taken Nate's diapers off at night, we have to be really careful he didn't wet the bed. I had to get up 3 times in the freezing cold to take him to potty. Maria thought he was running a bit of a fever Sat, and was worried about how he'd do Sat night. So we decided that we'd stay all day Sat, wait until after we roasted the marshmallows and then head home.

Did I mention camping wasn't a glamor sport? Down by the lake.

There's that cheesy faxe smile he likes to use in photograph's.

So, as we wound down the day Sat, Nate decided to put his finger on our little Weber BBQ and burned his finger. Then as we were taking down the tent, he cut his leg. He was getting lots of owies and wanted to go home.
Nate's burned finger
We would still like to get another trip in, perhaps in early Sept, but I think it will depend on whether we can find other folks to join us. I think Nate would have an even better time if he had someone to play with.

Lilo, early in the day, happy to be out chasing balls and swimming.

Swimming in the lake.Tired, ready for a nap.

Passed out and done for the day. Actually done for the next several days as she recovered from a lot of running.
