While summer is fewer Den meetings, the scouts have lots of great activities to get out and see our state. For starters, Den 1&5 had a camp trip to Tuttletown campground on New Melones Lake.

I took many of the kids on a hike from our campsite down to the lake. With the drought in full effect, the water was really low and left for extra hiking to get to any actual water.

Lots of exposed shoreline

While camping, we took a break and explored the local railroad museum and took a ride on the train.

After lunch, we moved on to Moaning Cavern. Got a great tour of the cavern.
![]() |
The big spiral staircase was as big of an attraction in the early days as the cavern was, an early engineering marvel.
![]() |
After exploring the cavern, time for a little gold panning.
![]() |
In this case, the gold panning, was more arrowhead panning. We bough a bag of dirt with arrowheads in it and you go through the same process to find your treasure.

This was the first year we skipped out on Resident camp, up in Lassen and instead took part in Twilight camp.

Here's the boys launching rockets, made from 2L soda bottles, filled with water and launched with air into the sky.

The camp theme was medieval times. Next year it's Dr. Who, Nate can't wait to go back.

Lots of activities to help advance the Webelos Badge. Here's he's making a puzzle picture frame.
![]() |
Archery is of course Nate's favorite

We also joined the scouts at the Rivercats game.

Always a spectacular place to watch a game.

Another packed summer, with lots of scouting activities built in. Can't wait for next year to continue the fun.
